Pay Rates
This article will outlines the basics of Pay Rates, how Pay Rates map to elements/codes (specific to your payroll provider), and how to change Pay Rates at two levels: role and employee.
The Basics
goRoster supports three options for how employees can be paid:
-
Hourly Rates: a rate paid for each hour worked. Up to 5 rates can be entered - one of which can be assigned as an Overtime Rate.
-
Weekly Salary: The employee is paid a set amount weekly.
-
Daily Rate: The employee is paid a fixed amount each day regardless of hours worked.
When assigning an hourly rate you can choose between Rate 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. These rates can be applied at a Role level or Employee level.
Mapping of Pay Rates
Each Pay Rate will map to a specific pay element/code in your selected payroll software.
If you would like a pay code/ element supported outside of the standard 5 Pay Rates please get in touch with the team at suppport@goroster.com.
Assigning Role/Employee Specific Pay Rates
goRoster gives you the ability to apply Pay Rates at the Role level. The Roles for your Roster are located in your Settings tab in the Roster/Roles section. When you adjust the rate at a Role level that rate will be applied to anyone assigned to that role (unless overridden using custom Rates, see here).
Note: assigning pay rates at role levels is particularly useful when an employee performs a different role e.g. a bartender works front of the house for one shift- the pay rate will automatically adjust in both goRoster and your payroll provider.
Assigning rates at a Role Level
-
Locate Rosters/ Roles on the sidebar of your dashboard.

2. Select the roster of interest and locate the Roles section.

3. Set the default Pay Rate for the particular role. These rates can be overridden with custom employee Pay Rates see here.

Assigning a Pay Rate at the Employee level (custom role via employee settings)
Adjusting Rates at the Employee level allows for customisation of Pay Rates for individuals. This is particularly useful if someone's experience level needs to be reflected in their Pay Rate.
-
On the sidebar of your dashboard navigate to the Employees section.

2. Select the individual employee of interest- navigate to their Pay & Cost Options and click the icon in the top right corner to edit.

3. You can adjust that employee's Pay Rates in the General tab. This will override the roster role rate for this employee.

4. Assign roles to the employee and specify the Pay Rate you would like to assign for each role.
Note: Make sure to click the tick and save your changes.
